Caiman Crocodile
Caiman crocodile is the most affordable of all the crocodilian leathers. Caiman is indigenous to South America.
Caiman is available in either a belly or hornback cut. The belly cut is popular for handbags and small leather goods, while the back is used mostly in the western boot industry.
Caiman skins have a unique appearance due to the small osteoderms or bones in each scale of the skin. They look like tiny fingerprints in the scale.
Caimans are typically offered in only small sizs up to 30 cm in width because of regulations in South America that only allow the exportation of small, farm-raised animals. Larger skins are sometimes available, but the hardness of the bones in the skins usually makes them difficult to stitch since the bones can sometimes break and crack the skin.
We stock both the belly and hornback caiman skins. We have belly sizes are up to 30 cm, and hornback sizes are up to 40 cm.
